Part III: Are Foods Robbing You of Energy?

Nutrition To Energize Your Life’s Work

Have you ever felt totally exhausted after a meal and needed to take a nap or felt like you needed to? Do you get bloated or have digestive discomfort when consuming certain foods? Do you often get headaches? Did you know that these and many other potential symptoms could be a result of sensitivities to a particular food(s)?

I have worked with numerous individuals with food sensitivities. Some of them were aware of it when they came to see me and many others were not. As a result, many individuals are suffering from symptoms including a lack of energy due to foods sensitivities and often do not know that there is anything they can do about it.

There are several ways to determine food sensitivities. I am going to share with you a two ways you can determine food sensitivities at home:

1.      Food Journaling: This can be a very effective and powerful way to determine if a particular food is problematic for you. Simply record the foods you eat throughout the day along with how you feel following the consumption of that food. Try to make connections between certain foods and how you feel.

2.      Elimination Diet: Once you determine foods that you may have a sensitivity through keeping a food journal then you will want to eliminate those foods from your diet for a minimum of two weeks. After two weeks re-introduce one food at a time and monitor symptoms. If you are truly sensitive to that food, you will likely have a stronger reaction since it has been out of your diet. If you are uncertain of what foods you may have sensitivities to it can be helpful to eliminate the most common food allergens for two weeks. The most common food allergens are wheat/gluten, dairy (casein/lactose), corn, soy, nuts, and eggs.

If you have sensitivities to foods it doesn’t mean that you have to eliminate these foods forever. There are things that you can do to heal your digestive tract and re-introduce many of these foods without trouble. I specialize in digestion and can help you get to the root of your lack of energy so you can live a more fulfilling and productive life! Contact me for more information.
