Holiday Tipping Etiquette

Holiday Tipping Etiquette

The holiday season is upon us.  To dispense with the formalities first I offer a Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, Happy Kwanzaa and for any forgotten - Happy Holidays to one and all.

Holiday tipping is a frequent conundrum for many people during the holidays and here I would like to offer guidelines to follow to make it a breeze.  One thing to remember when tipping is that it is at the sole discretion of the giver and a mere bonus for the receiver.  With that being said, let's review the common list of tips and suggested amounts to be given:

COST OF 1 SERVICE
Hairdresser / Barber
Babysitter
House Cleaner
Pool Service

15 - 20% OF SERVICE
Massage Therapist
Manicurist/Pedicurist
Animal Groomer
Pet Sitter
Taxi Service

$10 - $30
Newspaper Carrier
Garbage Removal

UP TO $20 (no cash) government guidelines do not allow carriers to receive cash
Mail Person

$25+ SMALL GIFT
Daycare Provider

15% - 20% of BOTTLE
Wine Sommelier/ Steward

While there are dozens of others worthy of tips during the holidays - plan accordingly as this holiday tradition can become extremely expensive rather quickly.   And while some may not agree with the "guidelines" above - I respectfully ask to you to remember that a gift of any kind is thoughtful and should be received with grace and a sincere thank you.

I am available at (860) 387-1282 or email ctetiquette@gmail.com should any tipping or gift giving etiquette issues arise.

Now off to work and before I forget to say - Merry Christmas to all and to all a Good Day
